Our Position on Net Zero and Corporate Sustainability

Our Position on Net Zero and Corporate Sustainability

In recent months we’ve engaged extensively with clients, partners, suppliers, and our broader community on the evolving role of Net Zero in corporate sustainability. Sustainability and Net Zero have become topics of broader conversation given the current national and international political and economic situation.

We recognize the importance of reducing emissions and improving environmental performance at the personal, corporate and national level. In the UK, achieving Net Zero has been mandated by policy makers and government as a way to achieve a range of sustainability goals.

However, at Veridia Carbon we believe the current framing of Net Zero as a central policy goal has proven to be overly burdensome, poorly defined in meaning and intent, and misaligned with the realities of business and economic resilience in the UK.

Net Zero was positioned as a destination, yet the pathways to achieve it were never fully defined. It is at best a loosely defined metric. One of many indicators of impact across the ESG model of people, planet, and profit. It’s clear this has allowed Net Zero to become a political football and a policy burden. But sustainability is too important to be reduced to a single metric. We advocate for a shift in policy focus, from Net Zero as a singular mandate to ESG as a strategic operating system that reflects real-world complexity and business accountability.

At Veridia Carbon our focus is on Corporate Sustainability through a combination of ESG integration into the organization, stakeholder accountability, and fiduciary responsibility. To realise this our approach is one that prioritizes materiality, corporate transparency, and long-term value creation.

We support decarbonization as part of a broader strategy, not as a standalone ideology. In short, we are not abandoning the ethos of Net Zero, we are contextualizing it within the scope of ESG, treating it simply as one of a range of performance indicators that are part of a wider framework of integrated reporting and strategic sustainability.

Our solutions and consultative offerings are designed to be flexible, modular and pragmatic – allowing organizations to respond to the constantly evolving regulatory environment, investor and societal expectations without compromising operational clarity or economic viability.
